Aloha, while we don’t need to reiterate any information about the current COVID 19 crises – we would like to give you a brief update from the Darmic team.
Being a small family company, we’re devastated by world events and it is obviously hitting the business very hard. Multiple cancellations, short notice refunds, we understand what everyone must be going through and really appreciate your patience as we try to deal with the influx of emails. So far we’ve cancelled 821 room nights which is just under US$160,000 worth of bookings for March, April and some of May. . Unfortunately due to the circumstances we had to “ask” Sam not to work any more so we only have one full time staff person now (Sue) and she has been working flat out to get to everyone. Please be patient with her – not only has she been working 10 hours a day to keep up, she and her husband Paul also have elderly parents and parents-in-law to worry about. In addition, New Zealand has just announced a full four week lock down which starts in 48 hours, so Sue has quite a lot to worry about personally as well as trying to keep in contact with everyone emailing her.
Ritchie, Sammie and I have remained in Hawaii as we thought it would be safer than going back to NZ on a plane. Hawaii is not the same as it used to be with restaurant, park and beach closures throughout the state. From this Thursday 14 days self isolation is required for all arrivals and the Mayor has today announced a full lockdown will start tomorrow afternoon. Previously Waikiki locals have been pleading with tourists not to come to Hawaii at the moment. We took some photos of Waikiki yesterday, I’m not sure if anyone wants to see them, it’s too depressing, even with the sun shining.
So once again, please be patient with us, we’re trying to get back to you as fast as we can but as these events are unprecedented in these modern times, we are all struggling. In the meantime, take care of you and your families.
A hui hou (until we meet again)
Aloha from Jamie and the Darmic team
